The pattern on this silk tie reproduces the monogram of Louis XIV, composed of the initial letter of his first name, doubled and interlaced into one character.
Among other emblems representing the Sun King, there was the sun, chosen by the King because it is the symbol of Apollo, the god of peace and art; the sun is also the celestial body that rises and sets, giving life every day. The fleur-de-lis is the emblem of French royalty, first adopted by Louis VII in 1147. Finally, there is the royal crown, a circle surmounted by eight fleurs-de-lis which support eight beaded diadems joined at the top by a double fleur-de-lis.
