This stole is inspired by a decorative panel of the Domecy castle, from a work by Odilon Redon (1840-1916).

Odilon Redon first devoted himself to drawing and engraving; he produced albums and illustrations, among others for "Les Fleurs du Mal" by Baudelaire (1890).

From this period he turned to colour. He found pastel was the best way for him to express his fantastic and visionary imagination.
Robert de Domecy, a lover of Redon's work, asked the artist to create a series of 15 panels to decorate his castle's dining room.
Redon then permanently abandoned black and white.
Other great mural decorations will follow, for example for the abbey of Fontfroide.

Odilon Redon influenced the Nabis and Surrealists who regarded him as a forerunner.
