Album "Musée national Fernand Léger - Biot"

This is the French edition of the album of the Fernand Leger Museum in Biot, France.

The Fernand Léger National Museum is situated in a big Mediterranean park, half-way between the village Biot and the sea.

Built in 1960, the heirs of Fernand Léger gave it to the French state in 1969, along with a set of works by the Master. The collection covered his entire career, from his figurative beginnings to the last compositions of the 1950s.

Fernand Léger left his mark on the 20th century through a very special pictorial style. This style, easily identifiable, offers a direct and synthetic approach to reality.

Since 1994, the collection was completed by the acquisition of drawings and, in 2001, a deposit from the National Museum of Modern Art. It highlights the various aspects of Fernand Léger’s research. The artist was particularly open to popular shows, cinema, ballets and architecture.

The chronological presentation of the paintings shows how connected the pieces of the collection and Fernand Léger’s development are, such as the Contraste de Forme, starting point of an aesthetic research that evolves until 1923, or the Joconde aux clés 1930 and Les Constructeurs 1950.
