Tuaregs Blue Shawl

The nomadic shepherds of Berber origin, living in the western and central Saharan desert, but also in the Sahel, have created different types of bags to hold their possessions while travelling : clothes, souvenirs, jewellery and food.
These precious bags are placed on one of the flanks of their faithful camel.

Their production is the result of joint community efforts, starting with the preparation of the skins that need to be washed, tanned and finally polished and shined, before applying the most important element: the decoration.

It is then the turn of the women who use lines and forms to interpret the beauty surrounding them, from the sumptuous sunsets over the desert to the impressive colours of sandstorms. The patterns and embroidery, mainly geometric, retain their protective powers since, according to tradition, they prevent sickness and danger.
