The design for this scarf is based on an 18th-century engraving and Marie-Antoinette's mongram.
A monogram is composed of the first letter of a name and either doubled or followed by the second letter of the name, both interwoven into one character.
In this example, a royal crown surmounts the «M» and «A».
The Queen's initials can be seen on the ramp of a staircase at the Petit Trianon as well as on the fireplace in one of the inner rooms. Marie-Antoinette's travel kit includes a porcelain coffee set (cup and saucer) bearing the monogram but without the crown.
