A monogram is composed of the first letter of a name and either doubled or followed by the second letter of the name, both letters interwoven into one character.
In this example, a royal crown surmounts the "M" and "A".
The Queen's initials can be seen on the balustrade of a staircase at Petit Trianon as well as on the fireplace in one of the inner rooms.
This monogram can also be found on Marie-Antoinette's travel kit, which includes a porcelain coffee set (cup and saucer) bearing the monogram but without the crown.
