During the 19th century, Europe discovered a whole new artistic realm, that of Islamic art.
The art market and private collections contributed to the forging of a new perspective and knowledge. The discovery of Islamic art led to two revelations.
This exhibition The Genius of the Orient illustrates these two visions through individuals or groups: Pioneers, travellers, photographers and collectors were fascinated by the originality of this new artistic culture at a time when the history of representation was in crisis.
