This necklace is inspired by a detail from the work of Italian Renaissance painter Francesco Mazzola, known as Parmigianino (1503-1540), Portrait of a Young Woman, known as Antea, circa 1535. Parmigianino was one of the pioneers and main proponents of Mannerism. Hailed by Vasari as the new Raphael, he earned a reputation as one of the 16th century's most outstanding portrait painters. He worked primarily in Parma, before moving to Rome in 1524, and Bologna in 1527.
