Cézanne at the Estaque - Oils, watercolours, drawings: 1864-1885
A small territory trapped between the sea and the hills at the northern end of Marseille, L'Estaque has attracted a very large number of painters, from the Marseillaise school to fauvism and cubism.
Cézanne came to L'Estaque several times between 1864 and 1885. There he satisfied his desire to paint on the motif, in a region where, precisely, it is immutable: sun, light, evergreen trees... Meticulous in the extreme, he appreciates this stability.
This book brings together the works that Cézanne created at L'Estaque. Some motifs have disappeared, others remain visible but have become difficult to access. However, the authentic work can often be compared to old postcards, archival documents or even recent photographs.
This book is an invitation to this walk with the painter.
