Hiroshige Sur la route du Tokaîdo
In the 1830's, Hiroshige produced several series of prints of the famous road from Tokyo that has inspired so many Japanese poets and novelists.
This box set contains a facsimile of the Small Tokaido, never previously reproduced, a booklet explaining the facsimile's 53 stations, and a comparativealbum of reproductions of other variations of these stations from different series of varying format.
With Hiroshige's picturesque sense of movement and detail, a vision of an entire culture and civilisation unfolds along the Tokaido road: its bridges, peasants, fishermen, passers-by caught in the rain, innkeepers, porters, soldiers, lords and merchants of all kinds.
