The Paris Opera, 350 years of history
In 2019 the Paris Opera celebrates its 350th anniversary.
This is an opportunity to mark this event by publishing a history of the Paris Opera that tells and celebrates this exceptional story from the founding of the Royal Academy of Music by Colbert in 1669 to the Paris National Opera in the 21st century.
It is a simple but elegant book, very accessible and rigorously organized. It tells the history of the institution in a chronological way, punctuated by boxes that focus on strong moments or subjects.
The book is written by Mathias Auclair, who heads the Bibliothèque Musée de l'Opéra de Paris and the music department of the BnF. The collection is richly illustrated by archival documents, often unpublished, from BMO and major French institutions. It is enriched by detailed annexes to provide the reader with as much tangible information as possible, with a table of illustrations and a bibliography.
