The pietà in the Vatican Basilica of St. Peter in Rome
Did you know ?
One day, Michelangelo hears two strollers claiming that his famous Pièta would be the work of another ... Exasperated, he lets himself be locked up at night in the Basilica where she is to sculpt her signature with the light of a candle . The text that appears on the breast of the virgin? "It's me, Michelangelo Buanarotti the Florentine, who did it". A way to show his genius to all and for eternity.
Sculptures are everywhere in Paris and often outside museums
" The resemblance that an article must obtain is that of the soul; it is the only one that matters: it is the one that the sculptor or the painter must go through through that of the mask. " Rodin

Chagall, sculptures

27 May 2017 28 August 2017 Exhibition has ended
Throughout his life, the inventive genius of Marc Chagall (1887-1985) pushed him to explore highly varied artistic techniques, including drawing, painting, engraving, ceramics, mosaics, stained-glass and tapestry. This wide range also includes one of the artist's practices of which the general public is still largely unaware - sculpture. Marc Chagall discovered the practice of sculpture in 1950 when he moved to Vence, on the Côte d'Azur. The artist's first foray into volume was modelling, creating ceramics in various different workshops around the region, including the Madoura studio in Vallauris. An exhibition organised by the Réunion des musées nationaux - Grand Palais and the National Museums of the XXth Century of Alpes-Maritimes at the Marc Chagall National Museum in Nice.
