A splendid red vermeil background composes the decor of each of the tapestries of The Lady and the Unicorn. This famous hanging, commissioned by Jean Le Viste, a member of a wealthy family from Lyon, is one of the Cluny museum's masterpieces. The six tapestries illustrate, through young women sumptuously dressed, the five senses. The scenes stand out amidst thousands of cut flowers, like bouquets thrown on the ground before the processions or noble houses. It was these bouquets that served as inspiration for this placemat.
