Katsuchika Hokusai (1760 - 1849) who is as famous as Mount Fuji to which he devoted a series of wookblock prints, or as famous as his Great Wave off Kanagawa, which has been reproduced all over the world, led an eventful life in a fascinating Japan. The "old men crazy about drawing" as he sometimes signed his works, produced some 30.000 of them and inspired Van Gogh, Monet, Klimt and Debussy.
