The motif of the wheel appears in certain illustrations in the Tibetan Golden Manuscript, completed between 1674 and 1681. The "wheel of law", dharmacakra in Sanskrit, is one of the eight good omens of Buddhism, widely used in its iconography. It symbolises the teachings of the Buddha.
These illustrations began with fine lines of gold and silver on black paper, to which were added touches of green, blue and red to give life to forms and movement.
