Francis Clouet is the son of Jean Clouet, to whom he succeeds as portraitist of the Court; he will serve four kings: François I, Henri II, François II, and finally Charles IX. In 1571 he executed the portrait of Elizabeth of Austria, wife of Charles IX and Queen of France since 1570.
