Engraving The assembly in a park - Jean-Antoine Watteau
It was during the admission of the pilgrimage to the island of Kythera, Antoine Watteau in 1717 at the Academy, that the institution created the category "Fête Galante". The creation of this new genre corresponded to the easing of manners at the beginning of the regency of the Duke of Orleans; the term covers charming scenes taking place in gardens where young aristocrats meet in love.
