Alberto Giacometti a modern adventure - Exhibition catalogue - French
Born in 1901 in Graubünden, Switzerland, active in Paris for most of his career, Giacometti was divided between painting, sculpture and drawing until his death in 1966. His connections with cubism and surrealism, his attraction for ancient and extra-western arts, his attachment to the human figure make him a personality fully inscribed in the artistic challenges of the 20th century.
Through more than 150 works, including sculptures, paintings and drawings that are among the most emblematic of his work, this book gives pride of place to the essential and sometimes unknown encounters that have marked his journey, such as the confrontation with the art of ancient Egypt, a source of inspiration and renewal, or the friendly and intellectual relationship with the writer Jacques Dupin, his first biographer. He also proposes to review his work through the eyes of photographers, poets, artists and even filmmakers of his time and ours.
