In 2022, the Musée Marmottan Monet celebrates the 150th anniversary of Claude Monet's Impression, Sunrise, the flagship work in its collections. For this occasion, it is joining forces with the Barberini Museum, another collector's house and owner of the "nocturnal counterpart" of Impression, Sunrise: Le Port du Havre, effet de nuit to organise the exhibition entitled "Face au soleil (Facing the Sun)".
Curated by art historians Marianne Mathieu, scientific director of the Musée Marmottan Monet, and Michael Philipp, chief curator at the Museo Barberini, Facing the Sun retraces the representation of the sun in art, from Antiquity to the present day, through a chrono-thematic tour of more than sixty works from international private and public collections.
Exhibition at the Musée Marmottan Monet from 21 September 2022 to 29 January 2023
