Lansyer, Canaletto and Piranesi. Pictures from Italy - Exhibition catalogue
This exhibition catalogue is an invitation to travel to Italy, Rome and Venice, in the footsteps of the landscape painter Emmanuel Lansyer (1835-1893). At the time of the railway, he gave his impressions of these two majestic cities, and evoked the difficulties encountered by an artist in representing them.
As a "city portrait painter", Lansyer follows in the footsteps of Canaletto and Piranesi, two 18th century genius stars, from whom he has acquired many etchings. This collection, housed at the Lansyer House-Museum in Loches, is an exceptional collection on a worldwide scale. Lansyer's journey also invites you on a journey to the beginnings of photography, a booming art that offers another image of Italy, that of its people and its fabulous heritage.
