On the trail of Osiris. Émile-Clément Amélineau (1850-1915), an Egyptologist from Vendée - Exhibition catalogue
As part of the bicentenary of the deciphering of the hieroglyphs, the Vendée department is revisiting the extraordinary destiny of Émile-Clément Amélineau, an Egyptologist misunderstood by his peers, a repentant abbot and an excellent linguist, and his boundless commitment to coptology.
This exhibition and the accompanying catalogue explore the history of Amélineau's great discoveries - the Stele of the Serpent King and the Tomb of Osiris in particular - and reveal the fascinating moment when modern Egyptology was born.
Exhibition at the Historial de la Vendée, from 6 May to 4 September 2022.
