Pablo Picasso's "The remorseful crate" is the exceptional gift made to Belfort by Galerie Louise-Leiris to mark, in 2019, the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Musée d'Art moderne - Donation Maurice Jardot. The 45 prints in this series of brass engravings, printed between 1920 and 1955, printed in 1960 and never signed by Picasso for lack of time, highlight the artist's ability to tirelessly renew some themes throughout his life: portraiture, the couple, games, bacchanalytics. Sometimes referred to as a "great recapitulator" (Jean Clair), Picasso is marked by his gaze on the past and by his ability to transform what he knows and sees of art history. It is therefore not difficult to consider "La caisse à remorse" as a form of concretization of this return to the past and, in this case, its own past.
