Rodin-Maillol Face to face - Exhibition catalogue
Conceived as a face-to-face encounter between the two great sculptors who have marked modern art with their talent, this catalogue favours dialogue over confrontation. Although taking opposite paths, Aristide Maillol and Auguste Rodin were able to exchange and nourish each other's art of admiration. They met in 1902 but it was between 1904 and 1908 that their relationship was the closest, supported by the admiration of both of them by a patron such as Count Kessler or a critic such as Octave Mirbeau.
Highlighting two approaches that are opposite to each other but crossed by the same leitmotivs, this catalogue leads us into a reflection that will lead us to the heart of sculpture.
