Turner Paintings and watercolours from the Tate- Exhibition catalogue
Organized in collaboration with the Tate (United Kingdom), which houses the extraordinary collection left by the artist at his death, it offers a unique insight into the intimate, expressive and experimental approach of this great Romantic painter. Some sixty watercolours from this bequest have been carefully selected and combined with some ten oil paintings to illustrate their influence on Turner's public output.
These works, which the artist had done "for his own pleasure," in the words of writer John Ruskin, have retained the same strength and spontaneity as when he laid them down on paper. Accompanying the exhibition "Turner. Paintings and Watercolours. Collections from the Tate", this catalogue allows us to follow the artist's journey, from his conventional beginnings as a draftsman of topographical landscapes and architecture to the fascinating luminous and colourful experiments of his maturity, which are among his most radical works.
