Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894)
Parterre de marguerites (detail), 1892-1893. Oil on canvas, H.100 ; L.50,3 cm. Giverny, musée des Impressionnismes.
Gustave Caillebotte was one of the impressionists who was closest to Monet. Not only was he his friend and patron, but he also discussed questions relating to art and gardens extensively with him. This work was a major source of inspiration to Monet during the last thirty years of his life. With its decorative dimension and Japanese influence, it sheds new light on the approach adopted by Monet in the Water-lilies. For all of these reasons, we are convinced that this work belongs at the musée des impressionnismes Giverny.
