The book evokes the history of these heritages - natural, architectural, technical and human - that ensure the production and distribution of water in the capital:
- an architectural heritage, through the aqueducts, factories, reservoirs, manholes and Parisian fountains. This heritage is also underground: water flows through nearly 1985 kilometres of pipelines underground in Paris!
- a natural heritage, whose dowsing perimeters and capturing fields reflect the environmental diversity;
- technical and human heritage. The professions around water are varied: hydrologists, fountain workers, chemists, geologists, boilermakers... These professions have evolved over the past 150 years, others have disappeared like the water carrier, an essential actor in cities for centuries!
In the face of tomorrow's challenges and the challenges posed by climate change in particular, water management is of particular importance.
