The water lilies are the species of water lilies chosen by Claude Monet (1840-1926) to decorate the water garden he arranged in his property in Giverny, in the Seine Valley.
It is in 1885 that appear the first paintings representing water lilies, irises and willows, under the name of Jardins d'eau. Monet conceived in 1897 the project of a vast decorative ensemble: the cycle of the Nymphéas.
In 1918, these paintings will join the Orangery Museum, where the public will discover the complete impressionism of these landscapes without frame, in which the eye is invited to immerse themselves.
