The Little Prince's parents were Louis Bonaparte, younger brother of Emperor Napoleon I, and Hortense de Beauharnais, the daughter Josephine had had from her first marriage. Josephine was the wife of Emperor Napoleon I and in 1814 owned the Malmaison.
Prince Louis-Napoleon became Emperor Napoleon III thirty-eight years after the facts recounted here.
