These works, which measure up to 16 meters in length and read from right to left, celebrate significant events of their reign: inspection visits to the provinces of southern China, celebrations of great rituals, scenes of imperial hunts.
Rarely reproduced in their entirety, these scrolls marvelously show the specificities of the great Chinese pictorial tradition, notably through the treatment of spaces, with a perspective so different from the European tradition...
