Sumi-e The art of Japanese ink painting
Japanese master Shozo Koike reveals all the secrets of sumi-e and teaches 18 traditional subjects to paint, step by step. Each model is completed by photographs and a video accessible by OR code.
Sumi-e is an art form that represents nature in all its spontaneity through the use of ink, water and paper, without any preparatory drawing. The brush is the instrument to fix on paper the sumi (black ink) in all its gradations, the water allows to dilute it to create nuances of varied intensities. The philosophy of sumi-e is revealed in the white space, bringing harmony to the painted forms. Here we are in the world of black and white, but also that of shades of grey, able to convey on paper the same sensations brought by colours.
We do not paint to show our own talent, but to express our personality.
