Beaux Arts Special Edition / James Tissot, Ambiguously modern
Born in Nantes, trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and having pursued a career on both sides of the Channel, Jacques Joseph Tissot is a major artist of the second half of the 19th century, both ambiguous and fascinating. In the late 1850s, Tissot made his debut in Paris, where his passion for Japanese art and his relations with the most influential circles nourished his painting.
Beaux Arts Éditions explores the themes that are dear to him and their variations, but also his desire to express himself in various techniques, such as printmaking, photography or cloisonné enamel, in addition to painting.
