Kimono: from Kyoto to the catwalks
The kimono, literally "thing to wear", is THE traditional Japanese garment. Made up of rectangles of fabric folded and sewn together, but never crossed, the kimono illustrates the close links between clothing, art and Japanese society. This special issue, which accompanies the exhibition presented at the Musée du Quai Branly, looks at the history and the different variations of this mythical garment, its diffusion in the West and its appropriation by fashion designers.
Exhibition Kimono at the musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac, Paris from 22 November 2022 to 28 May 2023.
