Revue DADA No 266 Special Edition / Rosa Bonheur
"I only enjoyed being among these animals, I studied them with passion." There is something familiar about her name, with its poetic undertones... But do we really know her art? Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899) was one of the most famous artists of her time, and her works can be found in prestigious museums all over the world.
Her speciality? Animals, which she painted with breathtaking precision. With her, this genre, which was considered less noble than history painting, was to be recognised for its true value. Born in Bordeaux, she made a name for herself at the age of just 19 and launched a career that would reach the top. Her success was such that she acquired a rare independence for a woman in the 19th century. A work, but also an extraordinary life, to be rediscovered 200 years after her birth.
