This French album was published for the opening of the Piette gallery and the exhibition Edouard Piette (1827-1906), pionnier de l'art préhistorique presented at the National Archaeology Museum at the château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye until March 2, 2009.
The Piette gallery of the National Archaeology Museum hosts the Piette collection, one of the most remarkable collections of prehistoric art.
This collection is the result of scientific research and was given to the French State in 1904. Edouard Piette, magistrate and amateur archaeologist, devoted a significant part of his time and money to excavation campaigns, as well as to the constitution of his collection and the publication of its results, among others his famous posthumous book L'Art pendant l'Age du Renne.
This richly illustrated album reveals the historical interest and aesthetic qualities of this series that includes many masterpieces of Humanity, such as La Dame de Brassempouy or the Vénus de Grimaldi.
