Notebook with ornamental motifs inspired by the scroll, grotesque and moresque designs of Johann Ambrosius Siebmacher, (c. 1561-1611) Nuremberg engraver.
This Renaissance ornamental repertoire is reminiscent of the ancient world. Its success continued over the following centuries, particularly during the reign of Louis XIV, as artists and craftsmen continued to draw on it for decorative motifs.
