This choice of the motif of daisies growing in the middle of the grass evokes the Japanese tradition, which French artists discovered in the second half of the 19th century. The flowers scattered over the surface of the canvas, alive rather than cut, recall certain Japanese masterpieces painted on screens and sliding partitions.
The modernity of this abundant plant decoration had certainly not escaped Claude Monet.
