A student of the painters Bouguereau and Gabriel Ferrier, Louis Willaume began his career at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux Arts in 1899, receiving the Prix de la Société des Paysagistes in 1920, the Prix Corot at the Salon de 1923 and the Gold Medal in the Engraving Section in 1929. In 1948 he became a member of the Société des
French engravers painters. This organization was created under the impetus of Bracquemond in 1889.
