The painting is a radical and timeless expression of human fear.
The original German title Munch gave to his work was Der Schrei der Natur (Nature's Cry), and the Norwegian title is Skrik (Scream) ).
The tortured face of the painting has become one of the most iconic art images, which is seen as a symbol of the fear of the human condition.
