The cat arrived in Japan via the Silk Road in the 6th century, at the same time as the influence of Buddhist philosophy. A sign of good luck, it found its place in all the homes of the peninsula in the form of the maneki-neko , this famous cat that raises its paw. The cat thus occupies this very special place in Japanese folklore and popular culture, but also through centuries of artistic and literary tradition from the pages of the Tale of Genji to the prints of Hokusai or Hiroshige.
Our whiskered friend intrigues with his ambivalence, his independence and his indomitable character. Sometimes cuddly, sometimes disdainful, always disconcerting, he honors us with his presence when he wishes and imposes his whims on us while purring.
Alongside the greatest Japanese poets, Issa, Sôseki and Bashô, explore the thousand faces of this noble animal, with sometimes unusual but always adorable behavior. Admire under their pen its flexibility and agility, its elegance, but above all its art of simplicity and its limitless freedom.
