Napoleon I's birthplace, the "Casa Buonaparte" in Ajaccio is a former patrician house that became part of the family's heritage at the end of the 17th century. Head of the Imperial House in 1891, Prince Victor Napoléon inherited it on the death of Empress Eugénie and donated it to France in 1923. In 1967, the Maison Bonaparte was attached to the Château de Malmaison. This work sketches a portrait of this great patron and collector and allows a better understanding of this original personality, whose exceptional donation was the initiative of many others.
Thus, the gift of Prince Victor - the Bonaparte House and its furniture, the imperial chapel of Ajaccio (necropolis of the Bonapartes) - the gifts of his children, Prince Louis Napoleon and the Countess of Witt, were followed by those of members of families allied or linked to the Bonapartes, then the gifts made by the Corsican patrons of the Bonaparte House. A tribute is paid to them here.
