K.Malevitch (1879-1935)

Known as one of the first abstract artists, Malevich is the founder of Suprematism, a modern art movement aiming at absolute abstraction, made of black, white and primary colours drawing geometric shapes: square, round, cross. A leading figure of the Soviet avant-garde, Malevich was active both through his plastic achievements and his theoretical writings on art. Highly inspired by cubism, neo-privitivism and protocubism, he is the author of the famous white square on a white background, which is considered to be the first monochrome in the history of contemporary painting.
