Cradle of Henry IV, who lived there in 1553, the old feudal fortress of Viscounts of Béarn, was transformed into a royal palace by Marguerite d'Angoulême. It was completely restored in the nineteenth century, by Louis - Philippe and Napoleon III. The royal apartments, furnished in the mid-nineteenth century, are a remarkable testimony of the decorative art of the July Monarchy and the Second Empire. They present, among others, a sumptuous collection of royal tapestries from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century, as well as the rich collections collected since 1945 to evoke the history and legend of the most popular kings of France.
