František Kupka (1871-1957) was with Kandinsky, Mondrian, Delaunay, Picabia and Léger one of the pioneers of abstract art.
The album invites us to a walk through Kupka's work. Thus he evokes the symbolism of his beginnings, his arrival in Paris in 1896, his brief fauve period, his participation in cubism, his involvement in anarchist circles and his drawings in the satirical press....
From the pre-war years of 14-18 Kupka transcribed movement and speed and continued his studies on colour. He banishes figurative art to define a new art based on the abstract and profound expression of nature.
In the second half of the 1920s, Kupka reoriented his art and developed an interest in machinism and jazz.
From 1931 to 1934, he adheres to Abstraction-Creation, bastion of geometric abstraction that fights against the New Objectivity and Surrealism. Then he evolves towards a strictly geometric painting especially in black and white.
Until his death in 1957, Kupka, now recognized as a master, remained a creator whose capacity to renew himself remained intact.
