Virgin and Child
Reproduction patinated by hand. Mold made from an imprint of the original work exhibited at the Louvre.
This is the reproduction of a sculpture in fruit wood now monochrome but used to be multicolored, like the stone statues of the period.
The Virgin usually wore a blue veil over a red dress, and the decorative bands of her mantle were decorated in gold.
The worship of the Virgin Mary played a very important role in the religion of medieval times. This is why the Virgin and Child is the most frequently portrayed theme of 14th century sculptors.
