Magnet Vishnu seated
This magnet was published on the occasion of the exhibition "Nepal, Art of the Kathmandu Valley" from 20 October 2021 to 17 January 2022 at the Musée national des arts asiatiques - Guimet.
Vishnu, Nepal, 16th century, gilt copper with traces of polychromy, dation, 2012, MA 12493 - Musée Guimet, Paris.
The identity of this figure appears rather enigmatic at first glance; he has, in fact, lost the attached attributes with which his hands were endowed and which could have allowed him to be formally identified. Nevertheless, he is probably the Hindu god Vishnu: the tubular decoration that accompanies the finials of his tiara can be seen on other headdresses that he wears in Nepalese art.
