The apogee of the landscape motif in printmaking developed in Japan at the beginning of the 19th century, when travel became one of the favourite pastimes of the Japanese.
The album of 200 prints, presented in the exhibition, was produced to commemorate the Edo procession to Kyoto in 1863, by the Tokaido road, of Shogun Iemochi who had gone to pay his respects to the Emperor.
