At the end of the 19th century, the Palace of Versailles made a spectacular comeback. At the same time as it once again became a national symbol and the stage for political events, nostalgia for its former splendour inspired literature, the arts and fashion.
The splendour of Versailles, the poetry of its gardens, the ghosts of the Sun King and Marie-Antoinette are among the dreams of the Belle Époque and the Roaring Twenties.
It is also the moment when the palace begins the vast project of its restoration and re-furnishing, triggering passionate debates that are still going on today.
Exhibition "Versailles Revival 1867-1937" from November 19, 2019 to March 15, 2020 at the Palace of Versailles.
