Georg Kern, known as Georg Baselitz, was born in Deutschbaselitz (Germany) in 1938. He studied in Berlin, during which time he was marked by expressionism and informality.
A figurative artist in the 1960s, he decided in 1969 to represent his characters upside down, to favour the perception of painting itself. He also produces prints using various techniques (lithography, xylography...).
