The bather of Valpinçon - Ingres
This Bather is named after one of her former 19th century owners. It was one of Ingres' "envoys from Rome" to Paris in 1808, when he was a boarder at the Académie de France.
The young artist creates a masterpiece with harmonious lines and delicate light. This admirable naked back haunted the artist all his life, repeating it in several compositions, including Le Bain turc.
