These are fossilised sea salt crystals, formed over 260 million years ago and unpolluted.
Where do they come from?
They are delicately extracted by hand from the heart of the Himalayan mountains in the mines of Khewra, a region in Pakistani Kashmir.
And their history?
Alexander the Great was the first to bring this precious salt from Kashmir to Europe, around 350 BC. And in ancient times, it was reserved for deities and emperors.
